Kansas Hires Charlie Weis
KRYSTEN OLIPHANT: So apparently Kansas’ main priority in hiring a new head football coach was to find someone who would fit into Mark Mangino’s old coaching gear.
CHRIS PUMMER: Kansas wanted to make a flashy hire, and the did it with Weis. But we all know the big name isn’t always the best pick. Continue reading

Packers 42, Saints 34
CHRIS PUMMER: The Packers opened the season where they left off, rolling past a very good opponent. Green Bay only narrowly made the playoffs last year and struggled at times, but that was after losing…

Never Miss A Super Bowl Club Commercials
HOWARD MEGDAL: These commercials about the Never Miss A Super Bowl Club irritated me to the point that when I read this, my first reaction was, “Guess he will now!” Don’t think that speaks well of me.
MIKE CUMMINGS: I, too, was irritated by those ads. Couldn’t he have done something more constructive and humanitarian with his time and money? And did he deserve to have a commercial in which to brag about it? I’m sure he was a good husband and father, but, gah. Continue reading

Super Bowl in Review
CHRIS PUMMER: That there were no surprises is probably the defining characteristic of this Super Bowl.
Everyone expected Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers to put points on the board with his deep wide receiving crew. He did.
Everyone knew Steelers…

NFL Divisional Playoffs in Review
Jets 28, Patriots 21
CHRIS PUMMER: The Jets (13-5) had a pretty simple formula for beating the Patriots (14-3). They didn’t turn the ball over and kept New England from making big plays.
For the former part New York quarterback…
Gary Kubiak’s Future
CHRIS PUMMER: Forget the financial mess the NFL might be headed for in the event of a lockout. Keeping Gary Kubiak on just makes good football sense. Continue reading

NFL Wild Card Weekend In Review
Seahawks 41, Saints 36
CHRIS PUMMER: If I were imagining a Seahawks upset before Saturday’s NFC Wild Card game, the picture would have been a couple Saints turnovers early, Matt Hasselbeck game-managing his team to a few scores, and…
Sportsman of the Year: Drew Brees, Michael Vick or LeBron James
CHRIS PUMMER: Brees might be a nice guy, but nothing defines the competitive spirit of the modern athlete better than knowing you’re so good that you can tell everyone else to go fuck themselves. That’s why LeBron James is my Sportsman of the Year. Continue reading
