Naming Hurricanes

AKIE BERMISS: I’m so tired of crappy hurricane names. When I was a kid, I never questioned it. I mean, it was a hurricane and it had a name, and that was all there was to it. My best friend in elementary school was named Andrew and so, when Hurricane Andrew hit we were kind of upset that it shared his name. I mean, what’s the deal? Now there’s undue enmity towards totally fine — if, often, bland — names.

DANI ALEXIS RYSKAMP: Hurricanes deserve names that properly reflect both how much they suck and how prominent they are in the consciousness of the average U.S. denizen, at least during hurricane season. Here in America, there’s not much we love more than natural disasters – except cars. So why not name our hurricanes after the cars we love the least? Continue reading

Louisiana: Awesome or Not?
