NFL Week 1 In Review

Packers 42, Saints 34
CHRIS PUMMER: The Packers opened the season where they left off, rolling past a very good opponent. Green Bay only narrowly made the playoffs last year and struggled at times, but that was after losing…

NFL Divisional Playoffs in Review

Jets 28, Patriots 21
CHRIS PUMMER:
The Jets (13-5) had a pretty simple formula for beating the Patriots (14-3). They didn’t turn the ball over and kept New England from making big plays.

For the former part New York quarterback…

NFL Wild Card Weekend In Review

Seahawks 41, Saints 36
CHRIS PUMMER:
If I were imagining a Seahawks upset before Saturday’s NFC Wild Card game, the picture would have been a couple Saints turnovers early, Matt Hasselbeck game-managing his team to a few scores, and…

NFL Week 16 in Review

CHRIS PUMMER: Disappointing teams have been cleaning house early this season. The 49ers got started by making Mike Singletary the fourth coach dismissed before the end of the regular season.

When the pink slips get handed out is less interesting…

Jets-Patriots Rivalry

BRAD GOLDBACH: The Jets-Patriots rivalry is definitely among the best in the NFL, but I wouldn’t put it at the top of the list just yet. It does find a home among the top three in the game currently, though.

CHRIS PUMMER: The Jets-Patriots rivalry is currently the best in the NFL, because it not only pits two divisional foes from two huge media markets, but the flames of hatred have enjoyed so much extra fuel for going on more than a decade now. Continue reading

NFL Week 13 in Review

Giants 31, Redskins 7
JASON CLINKSCALES: In the five seasons I have covered the Giants for the New York Beacon, I was never more stunned by a win over Washington than I was…

More Deserving Fanbase: Cubs or Indians?

BRAD GOLDBACH: In terms of fan bases in suffering, not many can compete with the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians, but when looking at an all-sports landscape, those fan bases aren’t even in the same league of pain.

Cleveland seems to be in permanent sports purgatory, while Chicago, Cubs aside, has done pretty well for itself over the years.

SHANNON MCCARTHY: The Cubs drought is an integral part of the fabric of baseball. Who would we at once mock and empathize with, what curse would we invoke if they were to go and do the unthinkable? The Curse of the Really Crappy Sports City doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. (Sorry, Cleveland, it’s all I can come up with.) Continue reading

NFL Week 4 In Review

Falcons 16, 49ers 14
CHRIS PUMMER:
That’s back-to-back ugly wins for the Falcons (3-1), but they’ll take it. Meanwhile San Francisco (0-4)  seems happy to take a top-5 draft pick.

JASON CLINKSCALES: I listened to this game via AudioPass and just…

NFL Week 2 in Review

Falcons 41, Cardinals 7
CHRIS PUMMER:
Guess Matt Leinart wasn’t going to play any better than Derek Anderson.

ALEX PREWITT: Good that the Falcons got this out of their system after getting abused by the Steelers’ defense in Week 1.…
